Designer Profiles

Philippe Starck

Philippe Starck has been one of the foremost names in design for more than 20 years. He has been commissioned to produce works all over the world, from French presidential suites to an optical mouse for Microsoft.

Phillippe Starck Bedside Gun

Interior design remains Starck's most prevalent creative outlet though and here at Leigh Harmer we stock a wide variety of his work, showcasing some of his finest designs. Philippe stark has worked in collaboration with top design houses like Fiam Italia, Flos and Kartell to produce some of the most exceptional furniture and lamps that we have available.

Innovative Lighting

Working in conjunction with the famous Flos design house, Starck has created some of the most unique contemporary lighting fixtures. One of the most striking additions to his lighting portfolio has to be the Gun lamps. The series of three gold plated lamps, ranging from a revolver table lamp through to large rifle floor light, are a highly attractive and much sought after modern decoration.

Away from firearms, Philippe Starck has created some other equally exceptional lamps with Flos. The Romeo range of desktop lamps, combines simple aesthetic charm with modern functionality, to create a highly desirable light fixture ideal for the contemporary home. Likewise, other inclusions in this collection such as the Miss K and the Archimoon, add great style and substance to a room whilst performing its highly practical purpose.

Functional Contemporary Furniture

Louis Ghost Chair

Practicality continues through his range of chair designs. Whilst they remain edgy and a little avant-garde, Starck's chairs do not simply function as decorative objects. The polycarbonate range of Ghost chairs from design house Kartell come in two sizes, the larger Louis seat and the more petite Victoria. Each range offers a variety of colours from full translucence, through opaque shades and finally to solid shades. These encapsulate the spirit of Starck's design ethos, being ever so slightly playful whilst also being functional and aesthetically pleasing.

This trend is continued through further seating designs, including the surprisingly versatile Kartell Ero/S chair. There are three variants of the Ero/S, a static four legged chair, a castor wheeled base variety as well as a swivel version. Style does not give way to comfort or usability, this ultra-modern piece of design is also a family-friendly piece of furniture. This once again reiterates just how fashion and function equally integral in Starck's furniture design and collection as a whole.

Vibrant Designer Mirrors

Continuing with this theme of functional interior decoration, Philippe Starck has produced a number of exciting modern mirrors. His interpretive use of space is evident on the Caadre piece, produced by the Fiam Italia design house. Using a curved glass border for the mirror is not only an attractive feature, it also allows light to refract throughout the room to stunning effect.

But once again Starck also shows a more playful and cost-effective tendency with his magnificent Francois Ghost Mirror, by Kartell. Using a polycarbonate setting for the mirror makes these mirrors extremely versatile, coming in a variety of colours and sizes. The coloured frames also produce an alluring vibrant display when in direct light, giving a shimmering glowing effect that will brighten any room.
